Lead Cast
A 35-year-old manga artist assistant who has spent his adult life in the shadow of more successful peers. Hideo is deeply ordinary — he daydreams, he second-guesses, he apologises. His one exceptional quality is a sporting shotgun licence, maintained through years of clay pigeon shooting. When the ZQN outbreak begins, Hideo's inability to act decisively is both his greatest flaw and his most human characteristic. The film's central question is whether, when everything collapses, he can finally become someone.
Yo Oizumi is one of Japan's most respected actors, known equally for dramatic and comedic roles. Born in Hokkaido, he is a long-standing member of Team Nacs theatre group.
A high school student who Hideo encounters during the chaos of the initial outbreak. Hiromi has been bitten — but by an infant ZQN that had no teeth. The bite transmitted partial infection without completing it. She exists in a half-state: human enough to communicate and feel, ZQN enough to share the herd's instincts. This makes her extraordinarily dangerous and, potentially, the most valuable person alive. Her condition forces Hideo to confront what he is actually willing to protect.
Kasumi Arimura broke through with Jou to Uso (Liar × Liar) and has become one of the leading actresses of her generation in Japanese cinema and television.
A nurse the pair encounters at the survivor refuge inside the outlet mall. Yabu is one of the few characters in the film who acts with clear purpose — she is a scientist in a world where rational thought has become a revolutionary act. She recognises Hiromi's half-ZQN blood as potentially containing an antibody. She is practical, sometimes ruthless, and fundamentally more honest than those around her about what it actually takes to survive.
Masami Nagasawa is one of Japan's most acclaimed actresses with a career spanning two decades. Her work includes Always: Sunset on Third Street (2005) and Godzilla Minus One (2023).
Supporting Cast
The de facto leader of the mall survivor community. Iura is charismatic, persuasive, and increasingly dangerous as the situation deteriorates. He represents the way power concentrates in a vacuum — not because he is the most capable or most moral person present, but because he is the most willing to take control and the most willing to harm those who challenge him.
A veteran Japanese actor appearing in a supporting role within the survivor community.
Appears among the mall survivors.
